Why OutKin exists
Family isn’t always something you’re born into. Sometimes it’s something you find.
OutKin is an LGBTQ+-rooted, friendship-first community welcoming LGBTQ+ people and allies for meaningful correspondence, supportive friendship, and chosen family. It’s a place to meet people who want something deeper than followers, swiping, or small talk — people you can write to, grow close to, celebrate life with, and maybe someday call family.
Some people arrive here after being rejected by family. Others simply want a friend who notices, listens, and stays. Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to explain your pain to deserve connection. Meet people who value kindness and mutual care, and let friendship grow at a pace that feels right to both of you.
Letters, not feeds
The experience is built around one-to-one correspondence and thoughtful profiles rather than public popularity mechanics.
Privacy by design
Email addresses and mailing addresses are not public profile fields. Physical address sharing uses a separate mutual-consent process between established pen pals.
Platonic by design
OutKin is not a dating service. Chosen family means adult platonic friendship that becomes meaningful through trust and time—not assigned parent/child roles.
What chosen family does—and does not—mean here
Members can say they value consistency, encouragement, cards, traditions, milestones, and long-term supportive friendship without having to disclose trauma or explain why those things matter. OutKin does not match people for money, housing, therapy, guardianship, employment, or emergency support. If you need immediate safety, shelter, or crisis care, use trusted local services rather than relying on a new connection here.
Public early access
The community is still growing.
OutKin is open to the public while the experience continues to improve. Early members may encounter a smaller match pool and occasional rough edges. Member feedback directly helps shape what comes next.
